“The 2011 Vin Santo di Montepulciano is heavenly and unbelievable rich. A deeply alluring display of tobacco and ash, evolve into sweeter notes of butterscotch, molasses, dried apricots and tangerine. These are some of the most weighty textures I have ever experienced, so salty yet chocolaty, like eating hot fudge direct from the bowl with candied pecans, exotic citrus and saline-minerals, and all framed by balanced acids that keep the expression from becoming tiring or cloying. Five minutes go by, and its glycerol textures are still slowly melting away from the palate, at times tropical fruit, at other roasted nuts; it’s almost like a kaleidoscope of every favorite ice cream sundae you can imagine. The 2011 clocks in at a whopping 400 grams per liter of residual sugar, and it’s worth every guilty one of those grams. It’s a blend of 50% Malvasia Bianca, 40% Pulcinculo (Grechetto) and 10% Trebbiano, which is air-dried and matured for eight months in a series of small barrels. ” 96 point Vinous
