Puerto Carbonero 2014

The 2014 Puerto Carbonero is pure Garnacha from a vineyard planted in 1982, located in the village of Menasalbas on sandy granitic soils at 800 meters altitude, and has been organically farmed since it was planted. The vinification is always quite soft, avoiding extractive methods and aiming to respect the character of the grapes, which in this case are thin-skinned and quite fragile—producing a light-colored red. All wines ferment in open vats with at least 50% full clusters, all fermentations are spontaneous and the élevage is in used French oak barrels (300-liters in this case); the wines are never racked and bottled unfiltered after a natural decantation. This is a clear improvement over the previous vintage: perfumed, with contained ripeness and aromas of bright red wild berry fruit and a hint of spices. The palate is silky, with unnoticeable tannins and very tasty flavors, focused and clean. Very impressive. 400 bottles filled in September  Parker
